MFA - Storyboards
Apollonia Thomaier earned her BFA in Digital Art and Animation from Digipen Institute of technology. For her senior film, she lead a group of artists to make the short film, Adija. It was shown in over 30 film festivals all around the world winning seven awards, including the Cine 49th Annual Film festival. Apollonia is currently completing her Masters In Fine Art in Animation and VFX at Academy of Art University, which she will be finishing in May of 2019!
During the summer of 2017, Apollonia interned at Walt Disney Animation Studio Story program. She was mentored by professional storyartists, and collaborated with the other production interns creating the first ever Walt Disney Animated Intern short film to ever be released to the public, Ventana.
Apollonia has proven her skills as a storyboard artist, as well as a capable leader and organizer of large teams. Her thesis at the Academy of Art University focused on team collaboration with remote and on site artists. 40 plus artist have participated on her 6 minute short film Monsters in the Dark, a mixed media film with 2D animation, 3D animation, and VFX. Apollonia wrote, boarded, produced and directed this project with help from her mentors at the Academy.
Apollonia was nominated to be the Valedictorian commencement speaker with strong recommendations from her Professors and peers. She is currently living in San Francisco CA, eager to meet and learn from more artists. She’s excited to share her passion for storytelling and animation with others as she’s driven to make better and better films.
