MA - 3D Animation

Wayne Kang

Hello! My name is Wayne Kang! I am a passionate 3D animator who love making unique and interesting animation.

During past two years, I have worked as a 3D animator on one animated film at Studio X called “Finny and the Seal Hotel” which is directed by Linda Bel. At Studio X, I am in charge of animating main character’s (seal) swim cycle. During the process of animating the swim cycle, I have ran into one problem that is the seal model is designed to walk on the ground and not to swim in the sea. Therefore, I contacted with the directer and modeler to discuss the use of the feet controllers and solved the problem eventually by constantly viewing reference videos of seals’ swim and pointing out which is the proper controller to be used. In this experience, I understand how industry pipeline works in advance and learned how to communicate with every members on the team professionally .

At school, the class “feature animation 2”, taught by Brett Schulz and Cody Lyon changed how I approach animation. Some of the main things that I learned is the importance of selling the idea, A good character’s pose should be one side simple and the other side complicated, Character should not move in one axis only and Animate the root first(hide characters’ legs) and treat it like a bouncing ball.

Thank you for taking time to review my demo reel and my website. I am looking forward for the opportunity to further discuss my 3D animation works!
