BFA - Modeling, Lighting & Texturing
Taewoo Kim
I have had a strong interest in drawing since my school days, especially in
the 3D field. During this time, after seeing the beautiful backgrounds in
Avatar, I became curious about computer graphics. I started researching
how such backgrounds were created and what the process was like, and
that led me to discover the role of a 3D artist.
I first enrolled in Ringling College and took basic animation courses. While
taking the animation class, I realized that my passion was not for animation
but for modeling, which led me to transfer to the Academy of Art
University.
At school, I majored in Visual Effects and Animation and learned various
programs and 3D modeling techniques. When I first encountered
modeling, it felt unfamiliar, but over time, I began to find it fun and
interesting. I particularly remember feeling very engaged when working on
a project to create hard surface models.
The two videos in my portfolio were created using Unreal Engine.
Although I didn’t learn Unreal Engine in school, I taught myself how to use
it. After modeling in Maya and ZBrush and texturing, I transferred the
work to Unreal Engine.
